Ashen
In the union of Ashan there are three countries Anyn, Styn, and Hiryn joined together. All through each of these countries have driffences in culture, all three of these countries share the same cultural history and do have some aspects in common. This article is fouced on what all three countries have in common.
Modern and Traditional Clothing
The base of Traditional Ashen clothing is the same regardless of age or gender, with the accessories and hair styles a person have saying more about their gender. Modern Ashen clothes is inspired by traditionl clothes, modern outfits often use tradnional accessories and fabric patterns.
A Traditional Ashen outfit is, a underdress with no shapeing and is often made of undyed fabric. this underdress reaches the ankles and often have a ribbed edge. On top of that is a over dress, witch is dyed a single color, this over dress has no body shaping and tend to be loose. Then last for a basic outfit is a belt to give more shape to the dress. Sandels are the most common shoes.
Traditional Clothing
Traditional Men clothes: Men wear shawls around both sholders and mainly tied in the fornt with a note. These shawls have big bold repeating patterns. Men also tie a head scarf that is tied at the base of the head. These head Scarfs tend to be a soild color. Men often wear tool bags attached to their waist belt. This outfit varies with what kind of job the person has.
Traditional Women clothes: Women wear long aprons that end at the same length as their dress. This apron have many hidden pockets that are sewed with in the colorful pattern of the apron. Women also wear a headscarf that are often pattenred and dyed, witch is tied at the top of the head.
Traditional Null clothes: Null gendered people wear a patterned long shawl that is worn over the sholder, and tied with a belt at the waist. These shawls variy in leagth with how much experience the null person has with their job. They also wear head veils, using a beaded string to tie it to the head.
Gender Ideals
Three genders are reconized in Ashen culture. Female, Male, And Null. You are allowed to change how you identify through out your self, being trans is a normalized aspect of Ashen culture.
Men: Men are seen to be conected to water. They are expected to be able to enthusiastic workers, knowing that their work helps the people they care about it. Men are expected to have knowledge about child animal and plant care. Some of the most common jobs for men are, doctors, farmers, builders, repair mechanics, or other similar jobs.
Woman: Women are seen as conected to the earth. They are expected to create and make, from having kids to making art. Being creative is seen as a very feminine aspect of people. Women are expcited to have jobs around making things, from becoming artist, crafters, and even city planers.
Null:Those who do not align themselves with male or female have very driffrent expectations in society. They are expected to help keep the blance in society. Leadership roles are most common, from becomming clerics, town leaders, mages, or even teachers. They are expected to know how to keep the peace, and help guide others in life. Of all of the people, Null gendered people are expcited to be the best behaved, as they are roll modles of everyone else.
Beauty Ideals
Tattoos are a beauty ideal for people of all genders. Many people have tattoos that represent people in their family, places they have been or lived in, or simply just things that they like. Most common tattoo placements are arms, hands and neck. Jewlary is also a beauty standard for everybody, with earings, necklaces, and bracelets being the most common. Teeth and bone are the most common jewelry materials. That are often painted or dyed.
Full bodied people are the most ideal no matter the gender. Long Hair is also a genderless standard of beauty.
Men: Men with thick healthy breeds are seen as attractive. Men who want to show off often braid there breeds to match how they braid their hair. Body hair as a whole is seen as favorable.
Woman: knowing that a woman made all of her clothes or accessories is seen as a sign of a successful woman. Well kept hair is seen as the most attractive thing about a woman.
Null: For the most part it is expected that Null gendered people wear hair styles that are fully protective hair styles, or at least partially in a protective hair style. Depedning on there job or role in the community they will use driffrent styles of locs or brades to show what role they have. On the other hand more free-spirited Null gendered people often shave their head fully to feel the most free from gender.
Relationship Ideals
Most parents dont rase the child in one household, In the bigger more crowed cities then parents share a household. But for the majoriy of the country childreen have two households, Their Rain family and their Dry family. Male Kids spend flooding season with their Rain Family, whitch is their mother's side. While Female kids spend Flooding season with their Dry family the father side of the family. Tho durrring relgouis hollidays both sides of the family meet up. Parents who had kids with more then one parter often plan to meet up with their child other parnet durry cerrent hoildays.
Durring the times kids are with their familys, any tooth that the child lost in kept by the parent they where with. That parent will use that child's tooth as jewlary. The more baby teeth you wear as a parent the more great and lucky you are seen as. Tooth jewlary is even popular in the more urban cities of Ashan. If you lose a tooth as a adult, you yourself get to wear it. Making Jewlary of your own teeth and gifting it to another is a sign of love.
Family System
Rain and Dry Families
Durring the flooding season of the Ashan region Childern go vist the other side of the family they dont nomral live with. People may stop visting there flood family once they have there own children. When someone has a child they chose witch side of there family they would like to stay with premamently. Sometimes groups of close friends will start there own family unit and live together. Rain or Dry family is the Ashen way to say that you are staying with your mother's side of the family (the Rain side) Or if your Father's side of the family (They dry side) These familyies are groups of siblings, first cousins, children, and grand parents. Kids who vist there Rain or Dry family durring Flooding season have driffrent tasks depending if they are the child of a father or a mother of the family group. Making them a Rain or a dry child.
Rain Roles: Those who are labled as Rain children male sons of a woman in the family group. Are in charge of a few things, that depend on age and abillity. Roles such as, animal care, canal management, field prep, and harvesting are the most common roles.
Other Children: Ashen culuters recognize Null as a gender, but what do those kids do durring flooding season? Many null identified children either chose if they want to be with their rain or dry family; but some chose to stay in major trading cities of Ashan to train for other roles. Training to become a celric, a trades person, or mage are the most common things for a null person to do durring the flooding season.
